My sister is back from the hospital. I’m not sure whether that’s a good or bad thing. she still has appointments to go to almost every other day. I’m glad she’s okay, but it’s still a pain trying to get her to eat. My mom and sister went on a week-long vacation to my relative’s house on the last full week of June, basically because my mom needed a break. You see, we have to keep my sister’s mind occupied so that she doesn’t start thinking bad thoughts like her eating disorder, so my mom was stuck driving her around everywhere all day while at home.
Well, being the nice brother that I am, before my sister had left a month ago, I had let her have my old GameCube, firstly because I’m not using it anymore, and secondly because I have a Wii. She’s played my GameCube before, so I figured a 15-year-old knew how to set it up; the only thing is we now have to use the AV composite cable from my N64, since she lost the GameCube’s the last time I lent it to her. I was in the kitchen eating while she was setting it up and I heard this loud bang. about 15m after playing Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (her favorite GC game) she called my mom over and told her the game stopped working.
After I finished eating my mom asked me if I could see what was wrong. the GameCube powered-on fine, but it wasn’t reading any of my games discs, not just Sonic (a similar problem I had with my computer). I figured the laser broke, which really sucks because there’s no way to fix it unless you send it in for repair. I don’t know whether my sister did something to break it while setting it up –– I didn’t ask her because I didn’t want her to feel guilty or stress over it. Luckily, my Wii can also play GameCube games, but I’m not going to take the risk of letting her play it because I still play it a lot (especially with Mario Galaxy 2). anyway, it doesn't matter anymore, because my mom bought my cousin's GameCube when they visited, for only $30 (much less than what it would've cost to repair mine).
I don’t know why people say the GameCube was so awful (maybe since it didn’t have online?), because it’s my favorite Nintendo system. I’ve had it for 9 years, since I bought it just 2 years after my parents got me my first system –– a Nintendo 64 –– in 1999. But it’s been in my closest for the past year, so as my friend suggested, the dust might’ve killed it. I tried cleaning it and it still didn’t work.
The reason I LOVE the GameCube is because almost all my favorite games are on there: Super Smash Bros. Melee (my all-time favorite game until Brawl came out), Metroid Prime (my 2nd favorite game, which I’ve beaten 6 times, I think), F-Zero GX (my favorite racing game), Soul Caliber II (my favorite fighting game), Mario Party 5 (my favorite of the series), and the list goes on… I used to have Viewtiful Joe until I traded it with my cousin for Super Monkey Ball 2, but I love both games equally the same (and I’ve beaten both at least twice). Heck, this summer I plan to play Need for Speed: Underground 2 again for nostalgia's sake.
Nintendo always makes the most durable consoles. I don’t know exactly how (or when) my GameCube died, but my 11-year-old N64...amazingly...still works.
Mind of Miku: My GameCube Died =(
